Ever go to the Flea market and see the hundreds and hundreds of VHS videos for sale for a dollar each? Yes, they’re mostly movies but if you’re one of those people like me who had a VHS camcorder (that’s what they called them back in those days), you may have dozens of video cassettes sitting on a shelf beneath you TV collecting dust (I do and I own the business!).
VHS tapes (feature films or home movies) can easily be transferred to DVD as you probably know by now. Yes, you can go out and buy a “VCR-DVD combo recorder and do it yourself. And yes, this time next year, that will still be ion your “To-Do” list.
At Francis Audio-Visual we provide that transfer as a service. Around Christmas we see a spike in that business because the old videos you shot are nice to watch now and then. Family videos make great birthday and Christmas and anniversary gifts.
It’s amazing how many people feel the same way about old audio cassettes. But with good reason! Audio cassettes and reel to reel tapes have been around a lot longer than VHS videos. You may have audio cassettes that you can’t even play anymore because you no longer have an audio cassette player! Transfer them to CD. Hearing the voice after decades of the person not being with us, is a special thing near and dear to the hearts of loved ones. Don’t let these tapes degrade to the point of where they cannot be salvaged. If they have been stored in a dry and relatively dirt free environment there is a good chance they can be cleanly transferred to CD. If they have lots of hiss or other background noise, we can restore / clean them up to eliminate much of that. They will actually end up being better than the original. Vinyl record albums can be transferred to CD just as easily.
For under $20 you can have a VHS or audio cassette transferred to CD or DVD. Then for under $10 each you can have multiple copies made to give to family and friends.
My personal favorite? Ok, now you have a disc that’s going to sit on that same shelf and collect dust and get old. History shouldn’t repeat itself! Before you put that DVD disc on the shelf, look through it and pick out specific images and let us, make prints for you from those videos. Easy to do with today’s technology. You know, you’re watching a video and you think, wow if I only had a still image of that particular scene!
If you’ve been to a wedding reception or anniversary party lately, chances are there was a slide show playing. Francis Audio-Visual has some of the best projectors and screens for any size banquet room. If a projector and screen are not practical, a flat screen TV on a nice pedestal stand are great for continuously playing the video as guests enter or mingle in your party room. We even have new techniques to produce a slide montage in a vertical format. The TV is oriented in a portrait or even 45 degree angle for a really cool look. Look to our website in the coming weeks for a video demo!
